Additional information

The sculptures of three dwarfs created by the stonemason Valdas Bandza greet the passers-by at the intersection of Dariaus ir Girėno and Vytauto Didžiojo Streets. The sculptures are carved from a light grey granite. The three characters of fairy tales are different, each of them having its own character. One dwarf has a book, apparently, he is a man of wisdom. Another dwarf symbolically has a lantern: a hundred years ago, a beautiful gas street lamp was located in this place – at the beginning of Siaurosios (or “Ilgųjų kromų”) Street. The third dwarf carries a bag and smiles mischievously at passers-by – let everyone try to guess what’s in that bag!

In 2010, a “Butterfly” created by stonemason Linas Mockus landed on a stone next to the building of Kelmė Town Council. The material chosen to depict this delicate creation of nature is stunning, but the artist’s skill created the impression that the stony pink and grey butterfly is simply floating in air. L. Mockus also reveals another meaning of his idea: an attempt to combine two ideas into one – eternity and temporality. The stone symbolizes constancy, eternity, and the butterfly – the fragility of life.
