The memory of the writer was immortalized by Juozas Liaudanskis, an artist from Kelmiškis who created many stone sculptures for Kelmė. Romas Liaudanskis told how his father, already eighty years old and suffering from diabetes, got up at six o'clock in the morning and twelve hours later carved a stone drawn by ameliorators on the shore of Kražantė, until he managed to create the face of Bronius Laucevičius - Vargšas.
The stonemason dreamed of further improving and polishing the monument. However, he failed to complete his work completely - died suddenly. The monument to Bronis Laucevičius - Vargšas was unveiled in 1988.
